I am an artist who works with instantly recognizable confectionary items such as chocolates and biscuits. My work deals with nostalgia and memories – the visit to a sweet shop, afternoon tea. I am fascinated by consumer goods that are no longer used, casually discarded items of everyday life. Utilizing the traditional method of pewter casting, my work questions this throw away society, in which sustainability and reducing waste is still a utopian dream, with the hand-crafted object questioning the start of luxury, craft and consumerism. I want the audience to have empathy with my products, realizing memories and bringing on a nostalgic feeling. My motivation is the reaction of others and their response to the memories and feelings they conjure up. Bringing a sense of joy with a sense of humor – ‘an un-edible afternoon tea’.
